Chepstow
Our flight delivered us to Heathrow Airport by 7am this morning where our friendly taxi driver, Cameron, came to collect us. It was easy to find him as he walked around holding up a sign with our name on it. Two hours later we arrived in Chepstow, a seamless entry into the UK.
We have decided that Heathrow has its act together, especially when compared with Abu Dhabi. The amount of people walking around the airport at midnight was staggering. Traversing security with all those people, at midnight, required much patience and then the challenge of finding a seat to occupy for the next two hours so we could just sit and wait caused the need for more patience. I did enjoy watching the crowd - interesting outfits, colourful shoes, unusual places to sleep, kids running around or sleeping on a parent's shoulder. So much movement!
Chepstow is a very old town, begun in 1067. It has a castle, the first stone-built Norman castle in Britain. We begin our walk from there on Saturday. Chepstow was a walled town so there are still large portions of the wall standing today.
A large tower has remained intact. It stands over the road, requirying traffic lights to help the locals navigate safely around this unique town. Pedestrians have to keep their wits about them, with many of the streets running in unusual directions creating interesting intersections.
Chepstow has a lovely old church - standard for almost every town in Britain.
And we are noticing some of the shop windows decorated to celebrate King Charles coronation. There's also lots of British flag bunting flapping in the breeze across the streets. We love the British patriotism with lots of posters for celebrations around the local areas.
