Brockhampton to Hereford

Falcon House is a lovely old stone building which Peter and Barbara have added to, with extra bedrooms on one side and a beautiful breakfast room on the other side. Chickens wander around the
garden along with several ducks. I've only realised now that I didn't take a photo. Nathan kindly drove us to the start of our walk today and along the way did some tour guiding, stopping to show us a thatched church. It was lovely.
This is the gateway into the church.
The beginning of today's walk. Nathan said it begins with a fantastic view across the valley and the river. This seat is heavily carved with some story attached, but not sure what it is.
We wandered with this beautiful scene before us for quite some time. We were lost!! Sometimes the book isn't really clear and the signposts are even less clear! We ended up in someone's private garden where these hares sat beside a pond on top of a hill
Eventually we found the steps down the hill
to the stile we had to negotiate
then onto more beautiful countryside.
We paused at the kissing gate
for morning tea and then more beauty.
As we approached Mordiford, where we had dinner last night, we passed an old mill
we saw a barrel sitting beside the track with it's lid slightly ajar. Then we noticed two sets of fingers gripping the top of the barrel. On closer inspection, there was a person hiding inside!
This is part of the Dragon Trail, a short walk around Mordiford. There is a story that goes with the trail about a dragon and a man who was commissioned to get rid of the dragon, hence the man in the barrel. We didn't walk all of the trail so didn't get all the story.
After leaving Mordiford we walked across several fields, watching the cows from a higher track which I found difficult to walk on. The cows had obviously walked here when the rain was falling and the track was soft, now it was quite rutted. I didn't know such danger was near by!
Try your hand at speaking Welsh.
In another field Ammie and Graham were leading the herd. A short stroll took us to a pub called 'Bunch of Carrots'
This is the only pub in England with this name - I wonder Wye... The old chap seated in front of the pub told Allan that it was named because of red stones that sat in a hilly paddock nearby. We risked injury to walk across this little bridge. There were several loose and broken steps that nobody is in a hurry to fix.
Four long fields along the Wye lead us into the Cathedral town of Hereford. Graham located the shortest route to Somerville House on google maps to help the weary walkers complete their day's walk. We were pretty well spent by the time we arrived, 17 kms in all.
Allan and Graham replenished their energy levels with an Eton Mess dessert. Two happy lads!
