Chepstow Castle
I feel that I would be doing Chepstow a great injustice if I didn't give you a tour of Chepstow Castle. I'm not going to bore you with historical facts, only to say that the engineers and builders of the past really knew how to construct magnificent buildings. Nearly 1000 years on and this castle is still standing. A few bits are missing but the beauty of its many features can be seen or imagined. The windows show how thick the walls are beginning very wide and narrowing to a fine slit in the shape of a cross.
Some windows have glass but we think that has been added later. It would have been cold living here.
The doors are huge. They show the durability of timber.
These doors were removed from the main entrance to preserve them and a replica now welcomes visitors. Beautiful stonework around the doorways support the doors.
The exterior of the castle is magnificent and imposing but we are glad we toured its interior to fully appreciate the grandeur of a passed life.
