Adare and Cliffs of Moher

Today we continue our journey along the Wild Atlantic Way, travelling further north on the west coast. We leave the Killarney district and motor towards Ballyvaughan, where we will stay three nights at Drumcreehy House. In planning our trip, we thought two to three nights at each stopover would give us time to explore before moving on. Our first stop was Adare, suggested as Ireland's prettiest village. A line of thatched cottages, built in the 19th century, now house craft shops and cafes. They are really quaint
Many have lovely cottage gardens in the front.
This is Adare's Washing Pool. This small pool, formed by a tributary of the Maigue River, was the traditional place for the women of Adare to wash their family clothes. It was also used as a watering place for animals. The local botanic gardens were a lovely green and shady spot
Adare is a very popular village with the tourist buses so we looked for somewhere quiet for morning tea.
The blues brothers enjoyed their morning tea and a laugh before we pressed on to the Cliffs of Moher. Getting into the carpark was very slow but we eventually made our way to the cliffs.
The Cliffs were as dramatic as we remembered them. They are Ireland's most visited site, hence the amount of people everywhere. We left the crowds behind and finished our journey, arriving in Ballyvaughan just before dinner, which was tricky as we hadn't booked anywhere. Lots of Ukrainians are living in Ballyvaughan at the moment which has taken away a fair bit of tourist accomodation.
Finished the day with a magnificent sunset, at 10 o'clock.
